Governance. Accountability. Community.

The StrongSteps Board of Directors provides governance and oversight to help ensure the organization remains responsible, mission-driven, and accountable to the communities it serves.

Board leadership helps guide organizational strategy, mission stewardship, financial oversight, policy, risk management, and long-term sustainability.

We seek Board leadership that brings different experiences, perspectives, skills, and connections to the organization.

Board of Directors

We’re building a board that reflects the communities we serve, people who bring different backgrounds, skills and lived experience to the table. We’ll introduce them here soon. In the meantime, we’re looking for a Treasurer and a Secretary to help guide what comes next.

Different Roles. One Mission.

Executive Leadership

Executive Leadership manages the organization's daily work: programs, staff, operations, partnerships and community initiatives.

This includes implementing strategy and making day-to-day decisions.

Board of Directors

The Board provides governance and oversight: protecting the mission, and overseeing strategy, finances, policy and accountability.

The Board does not replace organizational management. Board members help ensure StrongSteps is responsibly governed and stays accountable to its mission.

What We Hold Ourselves To

Making decisions based on the mission and responsibilities of the organization.

Using organizational resources responsibly.

Taking responsibility for decisions and organizational performance.

Maintaining appropriate governance, policies, controls, and accountability.

Providing appropriate information about the organization and its work.

Remembering that StrongSteps exists to serve people and communities.

Board Service FAQ

Do I need behavioral-health experience to serve?

Not necessarily. StrongSteps benefits from Board members with different professional backgrounds, community experiences, and perspectives.

Not necessarily. Previous Board experience can be helpful, but we also consider candidates who are prepared to learn about nonprofit governance and participate actively.

No. Board members serve a governance and oversight role and are separate from the organization's day-to-day staff structure.

StrongSteps is currently recruiting for Treasurer and Secretary. Additional Board opportunities may become available as organizational needs change.

Behavioral health, advocacy, peer support, recovery, social services, healthcare, housing, finance, accounting, law, HR, governance, fundraising, communications, education, emergency management, community development, business, technology and government. Lived experience and meaningful community involvement matter just as much as credentials.

Support the mission, participate actively and prepare for meetings, provide thoughtful oversight, ask questions, maintain confidentiality, identify conflicts of interest, support financial stewardship, serve as an ambassador, and act in the best interests of the organization.

For organizational questions, partnership opportunities or community inquiries, please contact StrongSteps through our main Contact page. This helps inquiries reach the right person while protecting Board members' personal contact information.

Leadership Is More Than a Title. It Is a Responsibility.

A responsibility to the mission, to the people we serve, to our communities, and to our supporters. Strong leadership helped us begin. Strong governance will help us grow. Help us build the next chapter.
